How can a sports website make money?

As Allison Hunter would ask, How would this make money?

That is a great question, and it’s one that will take some time for me to figure out. There are a few options that I can think of off the top of my head:

    1. Make it an app for the iPhone. I could charge anywhere from $0.99 to $1.99. My goal was to make it a website and have different features, but it may be doable as an app.
    2. Do a “paywall” or “insider access.” Newspapers are starting to give like 20 free articles a month, and then they force the reader to pay (The Guardian). However, this could be a site that has a low fee to use the site per month. ESPN does an “insider access.” You give the reader basic information but charge for in-depth pieces.
    3. (I had an idea but just blanked so…tbd)

Readers can get their information just about anywhere, but the site would focus on being convenient and getting news in one place. I’ve been in the reader’s position and know how frustrating it can be to serach for reliable information from different sites.

*Presentation update: Bleacher Report set a company record by having 5.5 million visits on Super Bowl Sunday. I mentioned in my presentation that I would try to find the stats, so there you go.
